Gerald Hoppe "Jerry" Brueggeman, born February 5th, 1933 passed away March 9th, 2017. Jerry, a native of Cherokee, Iowa, was the son of Walter Edward and Ella Louise (née Hoppe) Brueggeman. He graduated from Ocheyeden High School, along with fifteen other students, in May 1951. That fall after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and after boot camp, and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. Gerald Hoppe "Jerry" Brueggeman, born February 5th, 1933 passed away March 9th, 2017. Jerry, a native of Cherokee, Iowa, was the son of Walter Edward and Ella Louise (née Hoppe) Brueggeman. He graduated from Ocheyeden High School, along with fifteen other students, in May 1951. That fall after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and after boot camp, and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. Jerry trained in Radar Air Traffic Control and then assigned to Weisbaden Air Force Base. He remained there for the duration of the Korean War. In October 1954, Gerald returned stateside, again being stationed at Keesler Air Force Base to teach Radar Air Traffic Control. Following his regular military service, he became an active member of the Air Force Reserves. He was Honorably Discharged from military service in October 1959. He began working for IBM in 1956, remaining an employee there for 33 years. During his employment with IBM, he lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, Huntsville, Alabama, and in Raleigh, North Carolina. While in Huntsville, Alabama, he worked at the Redstone Arsenal where IBM and NASA were making and testing the Saturn V rockets used in the United States' first expeditions into space and astronaut flights to the moon. Following his retirement, Jerry became a realtor in the Raleigh-Durham area working for Realty Executives and as a broker for Briggs Realty. Jerry was a charter member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian church in Raleigh, where he served as an elder. As a veteran, he was a member of the national American Legion.

Gerald is survived by his wife Patricia Ann Doughtery Brueggeman of the home and his first wife Dalecia "Dale" Guyol Young of Huntsville, Alabama. Gerald was preceded into death by his second wife, Carol Satterfield Brueggeman in June 1986 and a son Daniel Paul Dougherty in August 2002. He is survived by his children, five sons and four daughters: Gerald Thomas Brueggeman and Martin Edward Brueggeman of Huntsville, Alabama, Jeffery Thane Brueggeman of Richardson, Texas, Steven Edward and Jessica Stewart Brueggeman of Raleigh, Jeffery Bernard Brueggeman of Raleigh, Sean Patrick Doughtery of Saugerties, New York, Kathy Jean (née Lane) and Thomas Eugene Core of Wake Forest, NC, Linda Lea (née Brueggeman) and Christopher Edward Hunt of Raleigh, Beth Louise (née Brueggeman) and Charles Dewey Childress of Raleigh, and Colleen Michelle (née Pearson) and Richard Odell Futrell of Burnsville, NC. He is also survived by his nine grandsons and three granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church at 7506 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27615, on Friday, March 17th, 2016 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice in Jerry's honor.
